O God,
Esh Oklah You are a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24).
El Kanna You are a jealous God,
burning with holy love that refuses to share Your glory
or leave my heart divided.
I tremble before You, Lord.
You are not tame.
You are not made in my image
You are the blazing, righteous, sovereign God of all.
“The Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God” (Deuteronomy 4:24).
And I, O God,
am a person with ashes in my hands
idols hidden in the folds of my heart,
affections scattered across this world like dust in the wind.
And yet, You do not turn away.
You come closer.
Not to crush me
but to refine me.
“He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver” (Malachi 3:3).
So burn, Lord.
Burn away the pride.
Burn away the bitterness.
Burn away the lesser loves.
Consume everything in me that competes with You.
El Kanna, jealous for my whole heart,
jealous for my love, my loyalty, my worship
take it all.
Tear down every idol I’ve built in secret.
Dismantle the altars I’ve made to self, success, and safety.
Even if it breaks me do not leave me unchanged.
“You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3).
But I have placed many before You.
I’ve bowed to fear.
I’ve worshiped at the altar of control.
I’ve loved comfort more than holiness.
Forgive me, Lord.
I cry out like Isaiah
“Woe is me! For I am lost… for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” (Isaiah 6:5).
But You are the God who touches the unclean lips,
who purges with fire and sends with purpose.
Holy Fire
Don’t just burn around me. Burn in me.
Let Your fire fall not in wrath, but in renewal.
Make my heart Your altar.
Make my life Your flame.
And when I am tempted to run, to resist, to hide
remind me
“Our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29),
but He is also the God whose mercy never ends (Lamentations 3:22).
You do not consume to destroy.
You consume to make holy.
You are jealous not because You are insecure
but because You are love.
And love will not let me stay in sin.
So here I am.
Unworthy. Weak. Afraid.
But willing.
Consume me, O Lord.
Refine me until all that remains is worship.
Until all that remains is You.
For Your glory, and in the holy name of Jesus,
Amen.
