1 Samuel 19–20 – The God Who Preserves the Faithful
Prayer
Lord God,
You are the God who preserves
those who walk uprightly before You.
Saul’s rage grew relentless.
Spears flew.
Traps were set.
Yet You placed protection
through friendship,
through covenant loyalty,
through unseen hands.
You are the God who gives companions
for the darkest roads.
Jonathan loved David
with selfless devotion.
He chose covenant over crown,
faithfulness over inheritance.
He recognized Your anointing
and submitted to it.
Love bound them
stronger than ambition.
Lord, thank You for faithful companions
those who speak truth,
protect integrity,
and walk beside us
when obedience costs everything.
Make me such a friend to others.
You are the God who sustains
when exile begins.
David fled,
not because he was guilty,
but because he was faithful.
You showed that obedience
does not always lead to safety,
but it always leads to Your presence.
When fear surrounds me, O God,
remind me that You are near.
Preserve my heart from bitterness.
Strengthen my trust when paths grow lonely.
Teach me to wait for Your promises
without grasping for control.
You are the God who preserves the faithful.
Hold me fast
when obedience leads into the wilderness.
And let my trust remain
until Your promise stands fulfilled.
Amen.
