Lord of the journey,
You told Moses to fashion trumpets of silver,
to sound them for gathering,
to sound them for marching,
to sound them for war,
to sound them for worship.
Clear notes ringing over the camp,
reminders that every step,
every move,
every battle,
every feast
all belonged to You.
O God,
let my ears be tuned to Your voice.
Teach me to recognize the trumpet call of Your Spirit,
whether it summons me to rest or to rise,
to battle or to bless.
In the noise of the world,
with its clamoring voices and endless distractions,
let Your signal cut through clear.
Train my heart to respond quickly,
without hesitation,
without complaint,
ready to obey.
The trumpets spoke of unity
all the tribes gathered at the same sound,
all the camp moved together at Your command.
Lord, make Your Church one.
Call us out of division and into harmony.
Gather us under one banner,
one Spirit,
one Savior.
Blow the trumpet of revival,
that we may march as one people,
not scattered in selfish pursuits,
but moving in step with You.
When the cloud lifted,
Israel set out.
When it settled,
they camped again.
Your presence marked their path.
So too, Lord,
be the rhythm of my days.
Let me not cling to places You have left,
nor resist the new ground You call me to.
Make me content in the stopping,
courageous in the going,
and faithful in both.
Moses prayed,
“Rise up, O Lord!
Let Your enemies be scattered,
and let those who hate You flee before You!”
And when they rested he prayed,
“Return, O Lord,
to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.”
So let these prayers be mine as well.
When I rise,
go before me.
Scatter the enemies of fear and sin.
When I rest,
dwell with me.
Be the peace that guards my soul.
Father,
the trumpet still sounds,
the cloud still moves,
the journey is not done.
Keep me listening,
keep me watching,
keep me following.
And when at last the final trumpet sounds,
when Christ descends in glory,
let me be found ready,
marching home,
gathered forever in Your presence.
In the name of Jesus,
the trumpet of God,
the Captain of our salvation,
Amen.
