Jehovah Jireh
the Lord who provides,
You tested Abraham
not with scarcity,
but with surrender.
You called him to take
the very thing he waited for,
the joy of his old age,
the promise wrapped in laughter
and lay it on the altar.
“Take your son… your only son Isaac, whom you love and offer him.”
Lord, You already know
that sentence still takes my breath away.
You asked for what felt untouchable.
You walked him into a test
where love and obedience collided.
And he went.
Early.
Willing.
Silent.
God, I confess
I want to follow You
Until You ask for what I love most.
Then I hesitate.
I reason.
I cling.
Teach me the kind of trust
that walks for three days
with wood and knife and faith
believing that even if You require it,
You can raise it again.
Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb.”
And he was right.
On that mountain,
when the knife was lifted,
when the heart was breaking
You stepped in.
You called out his name.
Twice.
“Abraham, Abraham.”
And You provided.
Not just a ram,
but a testimony
You are the God who sees the altar
and makes a way.
Lord, I thank You
that You do not delight in our pain,
but in our faith.
You do not need our sacrifices,
but You desire our surrender.
You are not the God
who takes sons for punishment,
but who gives His own Son for redemption.
You spared Isaac
but You did not spare Jesus.
On a different mountain,
another Father watched His Son carry wood.
Another Lamb was laid on the altar.
But this time, no ram was caught in the thicket.
This time, the knife fell.
And through His death, I live.
So I kneel before You, Lord
with trembling hands,
Help my faith, stand strong, lead me well.
What You ask,
help me be willing to give.
Not because I understand,
but because I trust the One who provides.
You are Jehovah Jireh
the God who sees ahead.
The God who meets me at the mountain.
The God who always keeps His word.
So I build my altar.
I lay it all down.
And I lift my eyes
to the Lamb You’ve provided.
In the name of Jesus,
the Lamb of God,
slain and risen,
forever worthy
Amen.
