Lord God,
You are the God of detours
the One who led Israel around the land of Seir,
who turned them back to the wilderness,
not because You were lost,
but because You were leading.

Your ways are not my ways,
and Your timing is not my own.
You see what lies ahead and what lies within.
You lead not by the shortest path,
but by the surest one.
You do not waste even a wandering.

I confess, Lord,
that I grow impatient in the long way.
When the road winds without end,
when the promises seem delayed,
I question whether You still see me,
whether You still have purpose in the waiting.
But You remind me
You were with Israel in every step,
even when they circled the same mountain for many years.
You were teaching them faith in the waiting,
and humility in the journey.

You told Your people not to fight Edom,
not to contend with Moab or Ammon,
because their inheritance was not Israel’s to claim.
So teach me, Lord,
to discern what belongs to me
and what does not.
Keep me from fighting battles You have not called me to,
from grasping at blessings meant for another.
Help me to rejoice in the portion You have given,
to walk faithfully in my own calling,
and to trust that in due time
You will bring me to my promised land.

You also said to Israel,
“I have given you the land. Rise up, take your journey.”
What You give, You also command us to claim.
So strengthen my faith, Lord.
When You open a door,
let me not stand outside in fear.
When You call me to move,
let me not delay in doubt.
You are the same God who turns deserts into highways,
and long roads into holy training grounds.

You gave Israel victory over Sihon, king of Heshbon,
and over Og, king of Bashan.
Not because they were mighty,
but because You fought for them.
So remind me, Lord,
that every victory is grace,
and every step forward is mercy.
When I face strongholds,
let me not boast in my strength,
but in Your faithfulness.
When I am weary from wandering,
remind me that You are bringing me closer,
one obedient step at a time.

O Lord,
even in my detours,
You are writing direction.
Even in my delays,
You are deepening trust.
Let me not despise the long way,
for it is the place where You reveal Yourself most clearly.

Number my days,
not by how far I’ve gone,
but by how much I’ve grown in faith.
And when I reach the edge of the promise,
let it be said that I followed You fully
through deserts, detours, and delays
until faith became sight.

In the name of Jesus,
the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Amen
