Great are You, Lord, and most worthy of praise in the city of our God, on Your holy mountain.
You are exalted far above the nations, enthroned in glory and clothed in righteousness. “Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3).
But O Lord… today I come not with songs, but with a trembling heart, a soul worn thin, hands too weak to lift without Your strength. You are great, and yet I feel so small. You are faithful, even when I wander. You are good, even when I can’t see the way. You are strong, even when I am breaking. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
So I cling to You. I hold fast not because I am able, but because You hold me in mercy. “Great is the Lord, He is holy and just; By His power we trust in His love. ” Sometimes, Lord, my trust feels like a flickering flame.
But You do not snuff it out. You breathe gently. You fan the ember. “He is faithful and true; By His mercy He proves He is love.” Yes, Lord, You prove Yourself again and again. In the stillness of dawn. In the whisper of Your Word.
In the cross that bore my sin. In the empty tomb that shouted hope. When I feel abandoned, remind me “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22–23).
You are great not because life is easy, but because You are present even when it’s not. You are sovereign over every sorrow, every tear, every waiting hour. You do not waste pain. You do not abandon sons and daughters. “The Lord is great and greatly to be praised; His greatness none can fathom.” So even here, in the valley, I choose to say “Great is the Lord, and worthy of glory! Great is the Lord, and worthy of praise!”
Even if my voice cracks. Even if my hands shake. Even if all I can say is “help.” You are still great. So I wait on You, my Rock, my Redeemer, my Risen King. And one day whether in a church pew, in my quiet room, or before Your throne in glory my soul will rise in full voice and sing again “Great is the Lord!” Until that day, I remain in awe.
Amen.
