1 Samuel 5 – The God Who Will Be Honored

Prayer

Lord God,
You are the God who needs no defender.
When the ark stood in Philistine territory,
You did not ask Israel to rescue You.
You did not call an army.
You did not demand retaliation.
You revealed Your glory
all by Yourself.

You are the God before whom false gods fall.
Dagon stood proudly one day
and lay shattered the next.
Hands broken.
Head removed.
Power exposed as empty.
Without a word spoken,
You declared Your supremacy.
No rival stands before You.
No idol survives Your presence.

Lord, I confess how often
I underestimate Your sovereignty.
How quickly I feel responsible
to protect Your reputation
instead of trusting Your power.
Forgive me for thinking
You need my defense
more than my obedience.

You are the God who makes Your holiness known.
Your presence brought judgment,
not because You were cruel,
but because You are pure.
The Philistines feared You
not with worship,
but with terror.
They wanted relief,
not relationship.

Lord, teach me to respond rightly
to Your holiness.
Not with fear that pushes You away,
but with reverence that draws me near.
Let Your presence cleanse me,
not crush me.
Transform my heart
so Your holiness becomes my joy,
not my dread.

You are the God who cannot be ignored.
Cities were struck.
Leaders panicked.
And the ark was sent away
because Your glory could not be contained
or controlled.

May my life never seek to exile Your presence.
Let me welcome Your rule fully.
Let idols fall in me
before You knock them down.
You alone are God.

Amen.
