Lord God,
You are the God of peace and purity,
the Keeper of covenant and the Builder of unity.
When the eastern tribes Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh
returned home across the Jordan,
their mission was complete.
They had fought beside their brothers,
helped secure the promise,
and now sought rest in the land You had given.
But when they built an altar by the river,
suspicion rose.
The unity of Your people trembled on the edge of division.
And yet, You intervened through wisdom and restraint,
turning potential war into worship.

You are the God who values unity and faithfulness.
You desire truth to dwell in peace,
and zeal to be tempered with understanding.
When the western tribes confronted their brothers,
they did not strike first they spoke.
They listened, reasoned, and discovered
that the altar was not rebellion, but remembrance.
It was a witness, not a rival
a reminder that all Israel shared one God.
Through grace and discernment,
You preserved the bond of Your people.

I confess, Lord,
that I too can be quick to judge,
slow to listen,
ready to assume the worst of others.
Forgive me for wounding unity
with words that should have waited.
Forgive me for mistaking zeal for righteousness
when it lacks mercy.
Teach me to speak truth in love
to guard the faith without grieving the family.
Make me careful in conviction and humble in correction.

You are the God who values faithfulness to covenant.
The eastern tribes built an altar not to replace Yours,
but to remind generations that the Lord is One.
They feared future forgetfulness,
and so they built memory into stone.
What wisdom, Lord
to think not only of self,
but of sons and daughters to come.
Help me do the same.
Let my life bear witness to Your faithfulness
so that generations after me may know Your name.

You are the God who turns conflict into communion.
When misunderstanding threatened division,
You birthed peace through conversation.
You showed that true worship unites
and that humility can heal what pride would shatter.
You proved that faithfulness and fellowship
are not enemies they are companions.

So, Lord,
make me a peacemaker in Your house.
Let my loyalty to truth never cost love for my brother.
Let my defense of doctrine never destroy devotion.
Give me a heart that fights for unity,
not uniformity
a heart that seeks the good of all who call on Your name.
Let my life be an altar of witness,
built not on suspicion,
but on remembrance
The Lord is God. The Lord is faithful. The Lord is one.

You are the God who values unity and faithfulness.
You guard both the purity of worship
and the peace of Your people.
You bring harmony out of misunderstanding,
and glory out of grace.
So bind us together, Lord
one faith, one hope, one Savior.
And let our lives proclaim,
as Israel did that day,
“Surely the Lord is among us!”

In the name of Jesus,
the Greater Joshua,
who tore down the dividing wall and made us one,
Amen.
