A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing. O Lord, You are our Fortress, our refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). In You, we find shelter from every storm, protection from every enemy, a rock that cannot be shaken.
When the world trembles and the winds howl, we stand in the shadow of Your wings (Psalm 91:4). You are the stronghold we cling to, the shield that guards us. Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. You are our Helper in times of trouble, our strength in weakness, our Savior in the flood of this broken world. When darkness presses in, when the weight of sin and suffering threatens to overwhelm, You are the hand that lifts us, the arm that holds us fast.
Though we are frail and weak, You are mighty, and in Your power, we find courage. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe, His craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. We see the enemy’s schemes, his lies, his deceptions, his temptations. We feel his weight pressing upon us the doubts he sows, the fears he breeds, the accusations he hurls.
But, Lord, You are greater. You are stronger. You are our Defender (Psalm 18:2), our Advocate (1 John 2:1), the One who has already crushed the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15).
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man our side, the man of Gods own choosing. O God, we confess that we are not enough. Our strength fails. Our wisdom falters. We would be lost without You.
But You have provided the right Man Jesus, our Champion, our Redeemer (Hebrews 2:10). In Him, we have victory. In Him, we stand secure.
Don’t ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he, Lords sabaoth His name, from age to age the same, and He must win the battle. Christ Jesus our Savior, our King. You are the Lord of Hosts, the Commander of Heaven’s armies (Joshua 5:14). You have never lost a battle, and You never will. We rest in Your victory, we trust in Your strength. You fight for us, You win for us, and in Your triumph, we stand.
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us. We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us. Though the world may rise against us, though the devil may rage, though circumstances may threaten our peace, we will not fear. For You are with us. Your truth has already triumphed on the cross (John 19:30). Your Word stands forever, and in it, we find our strength, our peace, our hope.
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him, His rage we can endure, for lo! His doom is sure, one little word shall fell him. O Lord, we are not afraid of the enemy, for his doom is already sealed. We do not tremble at his threats, for You have already triumphed over him (Colossians 2:15). One word from You is enough to silence his lies. One word from You is enough to defeat him. We stand in the power of Your name.
That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abides, the Spirit and the gifts are ours, through Him who with us sideth. The word of God is our sword, our shield, our strength (Ephesians 6:17). It is sharper than any weapon formed against us (Hebrews 4:12). It is the foundation beneath our feet, the truth that sustains us, the promise that will never fail.
We thank You, O Spirit of God, for empowering us, for equipping us. We stand not in our own power, but in the power of Christ who lives in us (Philippians 4:13).
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also, the body they may kill. God’s truth abides still, His kingdom is forever. We surrender all to You, O God. Our possessions, our security, our lives we lay them at Your feet. For You are the One who is eternal, the One whose kingdom will never end (Daniel 7:14). Let us live, let us die, with the knowledge that You reign forever. Let us walk with courage, knowing that Your truth will stand when everything else fades.
A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing. You are our Fortress, our Refuge, our Deliverer. In You, we are safe. In You, we are victorious. In You, we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).
And to You be all glory, honor, and praise, forever and ever. Amen.
