O Lord, my God How long will You forget me? Must I forever mourn in the shadows of unanswered prayers? How long will You hide Your face from me? Have You withdrawn forever? Will You not return? “I say to God, my rock “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?’” (Psalm 42:9).
I am tired, Lord Weary of waiting, Wounded by silence, Bruised by hope deferred. I cry to You and only the echo answers. My soul aches for Your nearness. My bones feel old with sorrow. “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?” (Psalm 13:1).
O hear me, Lord. Turn again to me. Do not abandon me to this valley of silence. Do not let the night go on forever. Restore light to my eyes. Revive my soul. Let me not sleep in everlasting night. “Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death” (Psalm 13:3).
I have placed my trust beneath Your mercy wing. You are my refuge, my hiding place, the shelter of my soul. Though I do not see You, I believe You are there. Though I cannot feel You, I believe You still hold me. “In the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by” (Psalm 57:1). “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You” (Psalm 56:3).
Your salvation is my hope. Though the darkness surrounds me, I believe yes, I believe Your saving health will come. Joy will rise again in my heart. You will not leave me in the pit. “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness” (Psalm 30:11).
And when You do, O Lord When You lift my face, When You restore my soul My mouth will be filled with praise. My voice will rise with the song of the rescued. I will sing because You have dealt bountifully with me.
“I have trusted in Your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me” (Psalm 13:5–6).
To You, my God, my song shall ascend. You do not despise the cries of the afflicted. You see Your servant in distress. And You, O Lord, are rich in mercy. You extend kindness when I deserve none. You lift me up when I have no strength. You crown my brokenness with compassion.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). “Bless the Lord, O my soul… who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy” (Psalm 103:2, 4).
So I will wait, even in tears. I will trust, even in silence. And I will praise, even from the valley Because You are still my God.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
