God of justice,
God of mercy,
You are not blind to wickedness.
You do not ignore what wounds,
what defiles,
what destroys.
You sent angels to Sodom
not first to strike,
but to rescue.
You pulled Lot from a city on fire.
Not because he was strong,
but because You are merciful.
Lord, I tremble at this chapter.
The darkness of Sodom,
the violence, the corruption,
the blinding pride that reaches for angels
it echoes in our world today.
And I see it in myself.
I confess
I’ve pitched my tent too close to sin.
I’ve grown comfortable near what corrupts.
I’ve tried to blend light with shadow
and called it wisdom.
But You still call out
“Escape for your life. Do not look back.”
You are not vague.
You are not soft when it comes to saving.
You reach into chaos with urgency.
You take hold of hands.
You pull.
You run.
You rescue.
Even when Lot hesitated,
You didn’t leave him behind.
You were patient,
but You were firm.
Lord, thank You for Your fierce mercy.
For the times You dragged me out
of things I didn’t have the courage to leave.
For when I lingered
and You still loved.
Lot’s wife looked back.
Not just with her eyes,
but with her heart.
She longed for what was being lost.
And I confess
so do I.
I’ve looked back at comfort,
at control, at what is familiar,
at sin disguised as stability.
And when I do,
I freeze.
I turn to salt
unable to move forward,
haunted by what I’ve left.
Break that in me, Lord.
Break the backward glance.
Fix my eyes on the narrow path ahead.
Teach me that mercy is in the fleeing,
and life is only found in You.
You spared Lot in spite of himself.
You answered Abraham’s prayer
not by saving the city,
but by saving the soul.
Let me never underestimate
the power of intercession.
Let me weep for cities,
but also rejoice in every soul snatched from flame.
The fire fell.
The smoke rose.
And Abraham stood where he last spoke with You
watching.
Remembering.
Trusting.
Lord, I stand there now.
On the edge of justice,
pleading for mercy.
Let me never grow numb to sin.
But let me never stop hoping for redemption.
You are the God
who warns,
who waits,
who rescues,
who remembers.
And even in judgment,
You make a way out.
In the name of Jesus,
who bore the fire of wrath
so I could walk free
Amen.
