Law-Giver and Covenant Lord,
You speak not to enslave,
but to show the shape of life with You.
Your Ten Words are not the terms of rescue
You have already brought Your people out
they are the way to walk in the freedom You have given. You call for worship of You alone,
forbidding the idols our hands can make
and our hearts can imagine.
You command that Your Name be treated as holy,
not tossed about as common.
You gift us the Sabbath,
calling us to rest as You rested,
to remember that the world keeps turning
because You hold it, not because we strive. You order family life
honor for father and mother
that generations might flourish.
You forbid murder,
because life is Your image.
You forbid adultery,
because covenant faithfulness mirrors Your own.
You forbid theft,
because You provide.
You forbid false witness,
because truth is Your character.
You forbid coveting,
because contentment is worship
and envy rots the soul. The mountain burns,
the trumpet sounds,
and the people tremble.
They beg for a mediator,
and You give them Moses
a pointer to the greater Mediator to come. Lord, write Your law on my heart,
not as cold stone,
but as living desire.
Let holy fear keep me from sin,
but not from You.
When my heart drifts toward idols,
call me back to the Voice that frees.
Teach me to delight in Your commands
as paths of life,
not chains of duty. In the name of Jesus,
who fulfilled the law perfectly
and now writes it within us by His Spirit,
Amen.
