Faithful God,
You are the One who keeps covenant,
the One whose Word never fails.
You spoke, and the heavens were made.
You promised, and generations found hope.
Your voice is sure,
Your vow unbreakable.
But I am not like You.
My lips make promises I cannot keep,
my heart drifts from what I swear,
my words rise higher than my obedience.
O Lord, forgive me.
Teach me the weight of my words.
Let my “yes” be yes,
and my “no” be no.
Make me faithful in speech
because I long to reflect You.
You gave Israel laws about vows
that men must keep their word,
that women’s vows were under order and covering,
that promises mattered before You.
For You are a God who listens.
Every whispered vow,
every careless oath,
is heard by heaven.
Father, how lightly I sometimes speak,
how carelessly I sometimes commit.
Remind me that nothing is hidden from You,
and every word rises like incense to Your throne.
Lord, I thank You that in Christ,
I do not stand condemned by broken vows alone.
For He is the faithful One in my place,
the true Yes to all of God’s promises,
the obedient Son whose words and deeds were one.
When I fail,
let me flee to Him.
When I stumble,
let me rest in His faithfulness.
And let His Spirit shape me
into one who speaks with integrity.
Father, give me wisdom in what I vow.
Let me not promise what I cannot fulfill.
Let me not offer what I will not give.
Make my life itself a vow
not of legalism,
but of devotion.
A vow to follow Christ,
to serve with joy,
to walk in holiness,
to love without end.
So today, Lord,
sanctify my speech.
Guard my lips.
Anchor my promises.
And let every word I speak
point back to You,
the God who cannot lie,
the God who always keeps His Word.
In the name of Jesus,
the Faithful and True,
Amen.
