1 Samuel 2 – The God Who Raises the Lowly

Prayer

Lord God,
You are the God who overturns human expectations.
Hannah’s song rose not from pride,
but from awe.
You lifted her from barrenness to blessing,
from humiliation to joy.
And she knew her story
was never just about her.
It was about who You are.

You are the God who humbles the proud
and exalts the lowly.
You bring down the strong
and strengthen the weak.
You fill the hungry with good things
and send the self-sufficient away empty.
Your kingdom does not operate
by human rank or power.
It moves by grace.

Lord, I confess how easily I trust strength,
position, and appearance.
How often I measure success
by visibility instead of faithfulness.
Forgive me for forgetting
that You delight in raising the lowly.
Strip me of pride that blinds me to grace.
Make my heart a place
where humility feels safe.

You are the God who exposes corruption in leadership.
While Hannah rejoiced,
Eli’s sons exploited worship.
They treated Your offerings lightly
and Your people selfishly.
They wore priestly garments
without priestly hearts.
You warned that privilege without reverence
invites judgment.

Lord, guard my heart from hollow religion.
Never let familiarity replace fear of You.
Never let service excuse sin.
Teach me that spiritual authority
is sustained by holiness,
not position.

You are the God who preserves a faithful remnant.
While corruption spread in public ministry,
Samuel grew quietly in Your presence.
You were preparing renewal
long before judgment arrived.
You always preserve what You intend to restore.

Raise the lowly in our day, O God.
Lift those who serve unseen.
Purify leadership.
Restore reverence to worship.
And let praise rise from surrendered hearts
that know You alone are exalted.

You are the God who raises the lowly
and humbles the proud.
May my life be shaped by awe,
not ambition.

Amen.
