Everlasting God,
You are the God of Abraham,
of Isaac,
of generations unfolding.
When one life ends,
You are already breathing life into the next.
When one chapter closes,
Your promises keep writing themselves
into time and history and hearts.
Abraham died
full of years,
full of faith,
buried beside Sarah,
buried in hope.
Lord, teach me to live like that.
To die like that.
To hold loosely to the earth,
and tightly to eternity.
To know that my story matters,
but Yours continues.
And then Isaac.
He prayed for Rebekah.
She was barren, like Sarah had been.
But he did not take another way.
He didn’t run to Egypt or take another wife.
He waited and he prayed.
God, let me learn to trust like that.
To stay when I’m tempted to flee.
To pray instead of manipulate.
To believe that what You did before,
You can do again.
You opened Rebekah’s womb
and a struggle began.
Two children.
Two nations.
One womb.
One will.
Even in the secret place,
before birth,
You spoke identity and destiny.
“The older will serve the younger.”
You choose not by strength,
not by order,
not by what makes sense to us
but by Your sovereign grace.
Lord, help me to rest in that.
To trust that You know what You are doing.
That Your choices are always wise,
even when they seem upside down.
Jacob and Esau grew.
And already, division grew with them.
Favoritism crept in.
Souls were shaped by shadows.
And Esau traded his birthright
for bread and lentil stew.
I confess
I’ve done the same.
I’ve exchanged lasting purpose
for fleeting satisfaction.
I’ve let hunger dictate decisions
meant to be held in honor.
Forgive me, Lord,
for every moment I’ve sold what was sacred
for what was easy.
Remind me that blessing takes patience.
That covenant should not be treated like convenience.
You are the God of legacy.
The God of womb and well,
of prayer and promise.
The God who speaks before birth
and stays faithful after death.
So I give You my hunger.
I give You my longing.
I give You my name and my years
and my children
and the nations yet unborn.
Fulfill Your purposes, Lord
not by my striving,
but by Your hand.
In the name of Jesus,
the true Firstborn of all creation,
who gave up His birthright
to make me an heir
Amen.
