Lord God,
You are the God of justice and mercy intertwined
the righteous Judge who upholds truth,
and the compassionate Savior who provides refuge.
You commanded that cities of refuge be established,
so that the innocent might find safety,
and the guilty might face truth.
Your wisdom holds both justice and grace in perfect balance.
You are the God who protects life,
who values every breath You have given.
You set boundaries to restrain vengeance,
and laws to guard the weak from the strong.
You care for the one who flees in fear,
and for the one who cries out for justice.
You see both,
and You rule with equity that no earthly court can match.
I confess, Lord,
that my heart leans toward extremes.
At times I long for vengeance more than righteousness,
and at others I excuse sin in the name of peace.
Forgive me, Lord,
for confusing mercy with neglect
and justice with revenge.
Teach me to love what You love
a justice that restores,
a mercy that does not lie,
a righteousness that both shields and sanctifies.
You established witnesses to confirm truth
two or three, never one alone.
You hate false testimony,
for a lying tongue can destroy what Your hand has built.
So guard my lips, Lord.
Let truth rule over my words,
even when truth costs me comfort.
Deliver me from gossip that wounds,
from exaggeration that distorts,
from silence that conceals injustice.
Let my speech reflect Your integrity,
and my conscience rest in Your approval alone.
You commanded that boundary stones not be moved
the markers that defined inheritance and peace.
O God, how easily I shift the boundaries of obedience
to make more room for my will.
Forgive me for altering what You have established,
for redrawing the lines of right and wrong
to favor my desires.
Teach me to honor the ancient boundaries of Your Word,
to love the order You have ordained,
to remember that freedom without foundation becomes chaos.
You are the God of refuge
the One to whom the pursued can run and live.
You built cities of safety in Israel,
but in Christ, You built an everlasting refuge.
When guilt hunts me down,
You shelter me beneath the cross.
When condemnation accuses,
You intercede with truth and mercy joined.
The blood that marked the altar now marks me,
and I am safe.
So be my refuge today, Lord.
Hide me from the avenger of shame,
from the pursuer called regret.
Let Your righteousness surround me like walls of peace.
And when I am wronged,
teach me to seek justice through Your ways, not my wrath.
For You have said, “Vengeance is Mine.”
I will trust You to set all things right.
You are the God who establishes justice and refuge
the holy One who defends the innocent,
redeems the guilty,
and restores the land through truth.
Let my life echo that balance
strong in conviction,
gentle in mercy,
faithful in witness.
For one day, Lord,
when every city falls and every boundary fades,
Your eternal refuge will remain
the kingdom where righteousness dwells
and justice never ends.
In the name of Jesus,
our Refuge, our Righteousness, and our Redeemer,
Amen.
