Lord Almighty, King above all kings,
Heaven is Your throne and earth Your footstool.
No power in heaven or on earth can resist You.
You speak, and creation itself obeys
seas split, dust stirs with life,
and the smallest of creatures become Your army.
You humble the proud not with legions of soldiers,
but with frogs, with gnats, with swarms of flies,
until the idols of Egypt crawl into their laps
and the stench of false gods fills their palaces.
You reveal Your glory in signs none can imitate.
Magicians confess defeat
“This is the finger of God”
yet Pharaoh hardens his heart again.
So the cycle turns
cries for mercy,
promises made,
promises broken.
And how often, O Lord, do I walk the same path?
I plead for rescue in my pain,
yet cling to my rebellion when relief comes.
I bargain with You
“Tomorrow I will obey”
while today I clutch my idols close.
But You draw boundaries no tyrant can erase.
Where judgment falls, Your mercy shelters.
Where Egypt swarms with flies,
Goshen rests untouched.
You prove Yourself not distant but near,
a fortress for Your people in the midst of wrath.
Teach me to trust Your shield, O Lord.
Not to demand escape from the struggle,
but to know You are with me in it.
Let me long not merely for comfort,
but for cleansing.
Take away what keeps me from You,
but never withdraw Your presence.
When my heart would compromise,
to worship halfway,
to hold back my herds, my children, my very breath,
remind me that worship cannot be bartered.
It is surrender, whole and unbroken.
So I turn my eyes to Jesus Christ,
the greater Moses, the true Deliverer.
He does not strike Egypt only,
but shatters the dominion of sin and death.
He casts out every unclean thing
and makes His people His dwelling.
He is the Lamb whose blood marks our doors,
the Redeemer who leads us out,
the King who will one day reign over all nations.
To Him be glory, honor, and dominion,
forever and ever. Amen.
